This story is among the most traumatizing I've read (I find any depictions of animal cruelty very traumatizing though) but it's also very incredible. It's by Brady Udall, who wrote an excellent book called The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint. So, if you're bored, hey, read something!

It's not that bad, but it's quite sad and there's a slightly traumatizing (for me at least) near-drowning of an armadillo.

I remember this story!
I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure that I heard it in early middle school. I think it was one of the first things to ever catch my attention and force me to listen to This American Life. I remember that it made so sad (the good kind) that I sat on the edge of my bed staring into space for close to an hour.
Yea, I heard it on TAL over a year ago, remember it being soul-crushing sad (but again, in that good way) and was happy to have found it online.
